ABSTRACT:
A preexperimental study was conducted on mothers of school age children regarding child abuse and its prevention. The literature were reviewed from research and non research literature in order to accomplish the objectives pre experimental approach was adopted. The data was analyzed interms of objectives and by using both descriptive and inferential statistics major findings that before implementing education, the mothers having 46.67% very poor knowledge and poor is 53.33% and after implementing teaching 33.34% having average, 63.33% good and 3.33% having excellent knowledge. T test was calculated to assess significant difference between pretest and post test score. It revealed that there is significant difference between pretest and post test knowledge score.

Child abuse is a disturbing common problem in the society today. There are nearly 3 million reports of child abuse made annually.1 Children below 3 yrs are the most likely to experience abuse. More than 2.5 million cases of child abuse and neglect are reported each year of these 35% involves physical abuse, 50% involves sexual abuse and 50% involves neglect.2
Child abuse affect as the health of the new generation. In order to promote the younger generation, this child is insisted us to have knowledge regarding child abuse in order to identify possible cases in community set up, refer and care them accordingly.3
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
A study to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge of mother of school age (3-12 years) children regarding child abuse and its prevention in a selected area of Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY:
1. To assess the existing knowledge of the mother of school age children regarding child abuse and its prevention.
2. To prepare and administer the planned teaching programme on child abuse and its prevention
3. To evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme among the mothers of school age children regarding child abuse and its prevention
Hypothesis:
H1- There will be significant difference between pretest and poste test knowledge on child abuse among the mother of school age children.
Conceptual Framework:
This study is based on Denial Stufflebeams context, input, process and product model. This model focuses to assess the knowledge on mother of school age children among the demographic variables age, educational qualifications, religion, occupation, residential areas, type of family, income of family, parity.
METHODOLOGY:
Research approach:
The quantitative research approach is adopted for this study.
Research design:
Preexperimental research design is adopted in the present study. In this design one group pretest posttest design is adopted. There is no control or comparison group.
Variables:
The categories of variables discussed in the present study here-
Dependent variables- knowledge of mothers regarding child abuse and its prevention
Independent variables– planned teaching programme regarding child abuse.
Sample:
Mother of school age children who met the inclusion criteria and were available during data collection were sample for the study.
Sample Size:
The sample size of the study is 30.
Sampling techniques:
Non probability purposive sampling technique is used I this study.
Tools for data collection:
It contains
Section A- It consists of items that record demographic characteristics like age, education, sex, qualification, area of living.
Section B- It consists of items on knowledge regarding child abuse.
Data collection procedure:
Data is collected from the sample by using non probability purposive sampling technique.
Data analysis and major findings:
Section I:
· 60% of mothers were in age group of 22-35yrs.
· 70% of mothers having primary and secondary school education.
· 70% of mothers were house wife.
· 46.67% of mothers having one child.
· 63.33% of the mothers belong to nuclear family.
· 93.34% of mothers were from slum areas.
· 100% of mothers were Hindu.
· 60% of mothers are having 5000 income per month in the family.
· 70.66% of the mothers having previous knowledge of child abuse.
Section II:
The score in the pretest depicts that maximum number of mother of school age children 16 of 53.33% were secured score between 0-10 reveals that very poor knowledge. In post test maximum 19mothers were secured score between 20-25 depicts that good level of knowledge after implementing planned teaching programme.
Section III:
Area wise comparison of mean, SD and mean percentage of pre test and post test knowledge score reveals that there is a great difference in knowledge scores of mothers in different areas after implementing planned teaching programme which shows gaining knowledge during post test and effectiveness of planned teaching programme.
Section IV:
Paired ‘t’ test was calculated to find out the difference between pretest and post test knowledge score. The overall pretest mean score was 9.63 where aspost test mean score was 21.4 with mean difference 11.77. The ‘t’ test value was 27.5 which is higher than the tabulated value at 5% level of significance.

IMPLICATIONS:
Nursing practice:
· The planned teaching programme regarding child abuse and its prevention will help the nurses to improve their knowledge.
· It will help the mothers regarding child abuse and its prevention.
· The mother can utilize this PTPin their practice and can prevent the child abuse.
Nursing education:
· The clinical instructor can teach the student about child abuse.
· The study can stress the significance of short term courses, workshop, seminar and in service education to provide nurses with current knowledge in the child abuse and its prevention.
Nursing research:
The study will serve as a valuable reference material for future investigator.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
· A similar study can be undertaken in other setting.
· A similar study can be conducted among student nurse.
CONCLUSION:
From the findings of the pretest study is concluded that planned teaching programme on child abuse and its prevention among school age child mothers. Planned teaching programme is effective in all areas regarding child abuse and its prevention among the mothers of school age children.
